The Parts and Service module uses the dealership location to calculate taxes for invoices. Sometimes, you may need to use a different tax rate for the parts or services on the invoice. If this is something that will apply semi-regularly, you may set these rates up as alternative tax rates and use them on invoices. Rarely, you may need to override the tax rates on the fly.
Use Alternative Tax Rate
- Open the Parts & Service module.
- Select either the Parts Invoicing or the Service Invoicing list from the Views menu on the left side of the screen.
- Locate and open the invoice. By default, the record will be locked when you first open it.
- If the header section is not expanded, you may need to choose the Show More button in the upper right of the window to show the customer information area.
- In the Customer Info section of the expanded header, you can click the Tax Alternate dropdown.
- Choose the alternate tax from the dropdown. The alternative tax rate will now apply to the invoice.
Override Invoice Taxes
- Open the Parts & Service module.
- Select either the Parts Invoicing or the Service Invoicing list from the Views menu on the left side of the screen.
- Locate and open the invoice.
- If the header section is not expanded, you may need to choose the Show More button in the upper right of the window to show the customer information area.
- In the Customer Info section of the expanded header, you can choose the Tax Info button. This will open the Tax Override window.
- You may click over the small arrow on the left of a section to expand the section and view applicable taxable amounts and taxes.
- To override the tax rate, click the Override Taxes box in the lower left of the window. This will expand the override section.
- You may enter an override tax percentage or dollar amount for parts and/or services.
- Click the Close button in the lower right of the Tax Breakdown window. This will return you to the invoice screen.
